Activity 3: Scaling New Heights SLD W1 D1 A3
For this activity, please select a charity that you are interested in. You may choose your own or use one from our list (below). Read about the charity.
List of Possible Charities:

I chose the SPCA because it really popped out to me because I have had animals that have had operations there. Also there are local SPCA’s everywhere around the country.

The SPCA helps animals that are Abused, Sick, Abandoned and Injured all around the country. The SPCA helps animals in need find forever homes and families and end up being very happy and loved. The SPCA is a very important charity to me and probably to a lot of people around New Zealand. Please give help to animals this Christmas by donating money or adopting an animal at the SPCA Charity.

DAY 1: EXPLORERS

Activity 1: Setting Sail

If I had to go on a three week voyage the food I would take, and why I would take would be…1. Bread because it is healthy and it is light.

2.The next thing I would take is lots and lots of water so I could keep hydrated.

3. Rice maybe if their is a fire so I could cook it on the fire propably not though.

4.The next thing I would take are nuts because it has a lot of fibre and protein.

5. I also would take Fruit because fruit is very good for you and there is protein but the other down side would be the fruit may rot.

6. Next I would take Cereal because Cereal id very good for you.

7. Maybe Juice to treat myself on the trip.

8. Vegetables to keep healthy and keep my nutrients up.

9. Pasta if their is a fire.

10. Dried fruit because it is light and healthy.
I might miss my family so I could take a photo of them.

My Speech

Starving, Vunularable, Malnourished,Unhealthy children do you have any idea what I am talking about.

I am talking about World Vision. World Vision an organisation it all started between 1947 and 1950 with Dr Bob Pierce.

World vision helps people have food water and shelter because their government doesn’t have the investment and some of the government's ban food. World vision helps with food and shelters also many more things.

It is happening it’s not just happening in Syria and Pakistan it’s happening all over the world even in New Zealand. More than half the world’s children that’s more than a ( billion children between the ages of 2 and 17) experience some type of violence every year.

That's why schools around the world do the 40 famine to raise money for food, shelter and clothes and many more things. World Vision works in some of the poorest countries in the world. Dr Bob Pierce resigned from the organization in 1967.

They get overall 13.7 percent from fundraising and 81.1 percent goes directly to the children and the families.

When you do the 40 hour famine it raises money for the children and their families. If you raise $20 dollars it will help a family carry and store two large clean containers. $60 can provide essentials to an unaccompanied child/ren. $120 dollars can feed a family for an entire month. $250 dollars can help a refuge to start up an activity like a hairdressing salon.

New Zealand accepts 750 refugees but it increased in July 2018 to 1000. Germany accepts the most refugees in the world. According to the recent data Germany accepts 1.4million refugees a year.

Australia accepts 17,555 refugees a year. This is the recent data from 2015 and 2016. Australia has an Island called Manus island it has 43,000 refugees and asylum people there. Manus island is 570 km away Papua New Guinea.

People said Manus island is closed since October 31 2017. There are also two other islands called Christmas Island and Nauru Island. They are also in the Australian territory.

World vision shouldn’t have to be an organization in some countries because som of these countries are wealthy countries politicians and big business companies take all the money. I challenge you to sponsor a child online. I got my facts from the World Vision site.

My Facinating and Amazing Transformation using grids

Today we found an accredited image on Explore and selected it to use on our page. We then put a 5x5 grid on it so we could copy the image and make it original. Mrs Minehan selected the first two images so we could understand the process, then we got to choose our own image.I found the first one challenging because of the Korus it is not finished yet.I found the Second quite challenging as well but more easier than the other one.Have you ever tried to transform an image using a grid? If you did how did you find the process?

This is the first one we tried to copy It is just the picture

Google My Maps is amazing and so much fun.

This morning Mrs Minehan came to Kumara School. She taught us how to use Google My Maps. We had to mark out our landmarks in our community. First we had to go on our drive and press new. Next we had to scroll down till we found My Maps. Then we had to press My Maps. After that we put our label on it so we knew what it was called.  Here is a link to My Maps..

Have you ever used Google My Maps before? If you haven't give it a go.
